Теория предпочтений и сходства
Концепция международной торговли, в которой утверждается, что основой развития торговли промышленными товарами является потребительский спрос на разнообразную и дифференцированную продукцию. Согласно теории предпочтений и сходства отечественная промышленность каждой страны ориентируется в основном на своего потребителя, однако страна также может экспортировать часть своей продукции за рубеж, где на нее есть спрос. В любой стране также всегда найдутся потребители, которые имеют иные предпочтения, которые можно удовлетворить за счет импорта из других стран. Поскольку спрос на тот или иной товар определяются в значительной степени уровнем дохода на душу населения, торговля промышленной продукцией обычно осуществляется между странами со схожей промышленной структурой, когда страны экспортируют и импортируют в основном аналогичные товары. Для потребителя выигрыш от такой торговли заключается не в более низких ценах (см. Comparative advantage), а в возможности выбора той марки или разновидности товара, которую он предпочитает.
